“Drawing Diary” series
"Drawing Diary" series is Kwak’s most intimate piece. When she first came to the United States, she felt frustrated because of the language barrier, and expressed her thoughts and feelings through her own visual language, drawing, and after completion, she wrote the date and year of the day. About 10 years later, she took out this "Drawing Diary" that was stacked up in a box, cut and pasted that visually relevant things and made collage drawings. "Times Composed" series that Kwak infers the relationship between the events and emotions of the time and the visual language. These collaged archives allow her to see at a glance the journey of her life in the U.S for the past years, as images expressed at different times of the decade met and connected to each other to create a new visual resonance. Later, the "Drawing Diaries" series often became the inspiration for large-scale works.
